Calling her a “Symbol of inspiration, morale, patience”, the veteran actor said she remains a vast world that continues to live in his heart. In his first post on X (formerly Twitter), Amitabh Bachchan wrote, “T 5823 – August 12, Mother’s Birthday ! Symbol of inspiration, morale, patience – A complete vast world forever residing in the heart.”On his personal blog, he shared the same sentiment and also explained why he chose not to post a picture of his mother on the occasion. He wrote in Hindi, which translated to English, “Will not put up a picture because who resides in heart forever, cannot be captured in a still.”
Who was Teji Bachchan?
Teji Bachchan, born Teji Suri on August 12, 1914, was the wife of celebrated Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and mother to Amitabh and his younger brother, Ajitabh Bachchan. She married Harivansh Rai Bachchan in 1941 and was known for her close association with the literary and cultural circles around the poet.Teji was also a theatre artist and took part in stage productions, including a Hindi adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’. She passed away on December 21, 2007, in Mumbai at the age of 93, just months after grandson Abhishek Bachchan‘s wedding to Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
